What Should I Expect During A Sclerotherapy Session?
Sclerotherapy can be done in a private treatment room in a short time and typically without anesthesia. The spider veins to be treated will be identified, and then the overlying skin will be sanitized. A fine-gauge needle will go into the vein, and the sclerosing solution will be injected. After the needle is empty, it will be removed and a bandage will be put over the site of the injection to stop any minor bleeding. This process will be repeated to treat all spider veins.
Once you are done with your session, you can get back to your daily routine. You may have mild bruising, inflammation, or redness in the treated areas, but they shouldn't last long. We may suggest wearing compression garments to help blood circulation for better, faster results. It can take a while for the sclerotherapy to take effect, but the treated spider veins should eventually shrink, turn white, and then disappear or fade. You may require two or more sessions to achieve the best results, but most patients are pleased with the improvements they see after only one treatment.
