What Is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing at Allure Medical Spa is a nonsurgical aesthetic procedure that utilizes pulsating beams of energy to exfoliate dead and damaged skin, removing it in layers. The procedure is a great option for addressing facial wrinkles and lines and for diminishing skin irregularities, such as acne scars, pigmentation, and others. Also known as a laser peel, laser skin resurfacing is an effective treatment for people who want softer, clearer, younger-looking skin. This treatment can be customized for your unique skin for optimal results. There is little recovery time associated with most laser skin resurfacing procedures. We are happy to answer any questions you may have during your initial consultation at our facility in Gillette, WY.

At Allure Medical Spa, we know that with age, your skin might have the typical signs of aging and imperfections like discoloration and spots, in addition to becoming dry, dull, and lifeless. Who is a Candidate for Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Anyone who wants to reduce the appearance of fine lines, age spots, sun damage, and other common imperfections may be a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing at Allure Medical Spa. A consultation with one of our trained professionals will help determine if our cutting-edge treatments can meet your needs. Inform us about any health conditions, medications, and allergies you may have before starting laser treatment. Our goal is to make sure you get the best results with the safest possible approach.

What Should I Expect During A Laser Resurfacing Procedure?

There are three general types of laser resurfacing skin procedures that can be used, depending on the condition of your skin:

  • Ablative Laser Treatments
This removes thin layers of skin with precision, allowing the laser technician to reduce damage to the skin. Ablative lasers are ideal for skin tightening and correcting wrinkles and acne scars.
  • Non-Ablative Laser Treatments
Non-ablative laser treatments do not remove any skin — the laser light creates micro-injuries to the skin cells to encourage the body's natural healing response. Non-ablative procedures are great for dealing with fine lines and wrinkles for people patient enough to wait several months to see results.
  • Fractional Laser Treatments
Fractional lasers are a combination of non-ablative and ablative that create micro-injuries in the deeper layers of the skin. The skin's self-healing process leads to tighter skin. Fractional lasers can also be used to help fine lines, sun damage, acne scars, and pigmentation issues.

You may be given a topical retinoid before deep laser treatments to prep the skin for more effective results. Medication will be suggested prior to treatment to alleviate discomfort during your appointment. If your complexion needs only a slight improvement, a local anesthetic may be used to numb treated areas. Sedation may be required for larger or more intense procedures. You will relax in a special treatment chair while the laser handpiece glides over the skin, directly targeting the areas needing rejuvenation. You may feel heat from the laser, followed by cold air from the system's built-in cooling system. The laser is designed to destroy dead and damaged skin cells while promoting collagen production.

An ointment will be applied to the skin after less aggressive treatments so you can go home to recover. Your skin may look pink and swollen, and it may feel irritated for a couple of days. The treated areas will peel over a 3 – 5-day period (recovery from deeper treatments takes longer). In the case of deep treatments, medication can be prescribed to deal with irritation and swelling. It may take 2 – 3 weeks to fully recover from a deep treatment. You should avoid sun exposure as you heal. Once the peeling process is done, your skin should feel softer and look brighter.

I highly recommend Allure Medical Spa, Hailey and Lynn! They can help you turn back the hands of time in many areas! The atmosphere is professional, private, and comfortable. I have been very happy with every service (both face and body) that I have purchased. The results have been incredible, without looking like I had a ‘procedure.’ I feel better about myself and believe I have received the best beauty treatments and procedures, which will help me age more graceful. Thank you so much, Michelle

How much does laser skin resurfacing cost?

Laser skin resurfacing cost will vary based on the type of treatment you select. During your consultation, we will listen to your concerns and wants before reviewing the different types of laser resurfacing available treatments. Then, we can help you decide on your resurfacing treatment and talk to you about costs. Allure Medical Spa regularly runs skin treatment specials and packages, so be sure to ask during your appointment.

What's the best type of resurfacing for me?

Our team will help you decide which resurfacing option is best for your needs and goals during your consultation. The best treatment for you will depend on the condition of your skin, any skin problems, and how deep you want your treatment to go. The length of recovery time might also be an important factor when choosing your treatment type. If you are unsure, it's best to select a lighter treatment then assess your outcomes and adjust as needed for your next treatment.

How can I help my skin recover after a resurfacing treatment?

Someone from our Gillette, WY team will give you recommendations on how you can speed skin healing after a laser resurfacing treatment. The most important rule is don't peel or pick flaking skin. Doing this can create long-term damage including scars. You need to skip all hair removal methods in the treatment area, which means no shaving, waxing, or depilatory creams. We will recommend an ointment to help soothe and heal your skin.

How often should I get laser resurfacing treatments?

Depending on the laser resurfacing options you select for your treatment, you may need to wait several weeks or even months between appointments. Deeper laser treatments will provide longer-lasting results, but will require a lengthy recovery period. You should talk to someone from our team about how frequently you want to come back for treatments so we can take this into account when choosing a type of resurfacing during your initial consultation.
