What Is Acne?

Acne is among the most widespread skin ailments in the U.S., affecting roughly 60 million people every year. While many cases are mild and may be controlled with prescription drugs and a steady at-home skin care regimen, many individuals have it so severely that scarring can occur. Acne usually includes pimples, whiteheads, blackheads, and small cysts, as well as red, itchy, and swollen areas on the skin. Caused by a blend of dead skin cells, bacteria, and clogged pores, it is most frequently seen in teenagers but can affect adults well into their 40s. Acne most frequently shows up on the face, chest, and back. To regain a healthy, glowing appearance, the team at Allure Medical Spa in Gillette, WY can provide numerous treatment alternatives, ranging from personalized at-home cleansing methods to medications and laser treatments.

What Should I Expect from An Acne Treatment?

Some research suggests that store-bought medications simply aren't effective at treating acne outbreaks. Allure Medical Spa offers many treatment options to control and maintain acne and clear up its symptoms. For milder cases, prescription medications, like topical creams and solutions, that contain retinoids, salicylic acid, sulfur, and benzoyl peroxide can provide help. There are also oral antibiotics, such as tetracycline, minocycline, or doxycycline, that can be effective. Along with topical and oral prescriptions, laser treatments have also proven to be effective. Laser therapy can help cleanse and kill dead skin cells beneath the dermal layer and reduce inflammation and other pigmentation problems associated with acne. Extractions and chemical peels may also help, depending on the type of acne you are dealing with.

I highly recommend Allure Medical Spa, Hailey and Lynn! They can help you turn back the hands of time in many areas! The atmosphere is professional, private, and comfortable. I have been very happy with every service (both face and body) that I have purchased. The results have been incredible, without looking like I had a ‘procedure.’ I feel better about myself and believe I have received the best beauty treatments and procedures, which will help me age more graceful. Thank you so much, Michelle

Can acne be cured?

While there are several very effective acne treatments, acne typically cannot be permanently cured. Some people may only experience acne during puberty or minor flare-ups that are few and far between. However, other people can experience moderate to severe acne throughout their lives. That's why at Allure Medical Spa, we provide a wide spectrum of acne treatments to significantly reduce acne symptoms and flare-ups to help you experience clearer, healthier skin.

Can wearing makeup cause acne flare-ups?

Yes, it can. While wearing makeup doesn't necessarily cause acne, overuse of makeup can contribute to pore clogging, which can lead to acne. To help prevent this, the American Academy of Dermatology recommends using makeup that is oil-free or non-comedogenic to reduce risks for acne. You should always ensure that you fully remove all makeup as part of your nightly routine to also reduce the risks of clogged pores.

Do certain foods cause acne?

In general, no, since the main cause of acne is hormonal fluctuations. However, there is some evidence that foods high in saturated fats (fried foods) and dairy products may have an effect on acne outbreaks.
